Associate Pastor Cathy Harris Demonstrates a Children's Worship Program at New Castle Friends
Our associate pastor, Cathy Harris, recently demonstrated the "Young Children & Worship" program to New Castle Friends Meeting.
The children's worship program is an exciting way for young children to experience God and at the same time to learn about God. Storytellers use wooden figures to tell the stories of God from the Old and New Testaments.
After hearing a story, children move into a time of 'worship and wonder', where they continue to work with the wooden story figures or use art materials such as coloring, painting, or Play Dough as they think about God and that day's story. The program is based on the belief that God speaks to everyone - adults and children - and provides a quiet, special place for children to worship and experience God.
We all bring our life experiences into our experience of God and the biblical story, and The Young Children & Worship program allows children to bring their life experiences into their experience of God and the biblical story at their level. A time of fellowship allows them to take turns serving one another refreshments and to visit with the other children as well as the storyteller and greeters.
Cathy has helped four Friends congregations to implement this program.
